EXPECTATIONS of so many people who thronged the Iyaganku Magistrate Court, Ibadan yesterday to catch a glimpse of a man who was allegedly caught with a human head at Olomi area of Ibadan were dashed as they saw only the 27 suspects who allegedly participated in beating the man.
When Vanguard called the Oyo State headquarters of the police, Eleyele yesterday on why the prime suspect was not arraigned with the suspects, the State Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Adekunle Ajisebutu said the command was still conducting “an intensive investigation” to unravel the mystery surrounding the incident.
He said; “We could not arraign him because we are still conducting an intensive investigation on the matter. We cannot arraign him until we have made adequate enquiries”. Meanwhile, all the 27 suspects who were arrested by the police for attacking its men who were deployed to the area and destroying their vehicle were arraigned on a four-count charge before Magistrate A. F Richard of Court 2, Ibadan. All of them have been granted bail in the sum of N100,000 each with two sureties and a civil servant of level 10. According to the charge sheet, the accused persons were charged with conspiracy to commit an offence to wit: malicious damage, grievous harm and conduct likely to cause breach of the peace and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 516 of the Criminal Code cap 38 vol. 11 Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria.
“That the accused persons did willfully and maliciously damaged the windscreen of Nissan Pick Up of police patrol vehicle with reg. no NPF 208C/37 valued yet unknown and one Toyota Sienna bus with registration no LSD 296 DD valued yet unknown, properties of Police SARS, Dugbe and thereby committed an offence contrary to Sec. 335 and punishable onder Sect. 451 of the Criminal Code cap 38, vol 11 Laws of Oyo State, 2000. “That the accused did greivously caused harm to Inspector Bosede Jude-Police officwr attached to Sanyo Police Division, Ibadan and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Sect. 335 of the Criminal Code cap 38 vol. 11 Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
“That the accused persons did unlawfully conduct yourselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace by causing fear in the neighbourhood and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under sect. 249(d) of the Criminal Code cap. 38 vol. 11 of Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
